[Design Ideas] ATP Live scores, Admission, Endless

Good design: ATP Tennis Live scores

ATP: Live scores
(Upon selecting Live scores)

Clear, using big fonts and real-world tennis conventions, ATP Live scores provides all the information needed in one simple and clean interface.

Bad design: Admission.com ticket selection

Admission.com is a division of Ticketmaster Canada.Admission.com: Ticket selection
(Selecting tickets to purchase)

Everytime big event tickets go on sale, users are queued to access the ticket selection page. The interaction design (dropdown with “Best available” for all categories OR a specific seat level) calls for trial and error which, is not permitted. Users need to go back to the queue to search again. This lack of control creates user frustration and reduces faith in the system. Using checkboxes instead of a dropdown would greatly improve customer value.

Interesting design: Endless.com filters

Endless.com is an online shoe store operated by Amazon.Endless: Filters

What is interesting with Endless.com is the emphasis put on filters. It would have been very daring if the real-time filters didn’t work so well but, Endless.com pulls it off really nicely. Endless.com’s user experience is very different from other shopping Websites; I wouldn’t be surprised to see some of the ideas eventually applied to Amazon.com.
